My My

There are two kinds of good friends.
One, you guys spend lots of time together. Another, you see each other once in a while but you guys have what people say Chemistry.
Qijin has always been one of my dearest friend. Although we have always had different groups of friends and different way of lives.
And now, we have different lives (student vs working adult).
But we never run out of things to talk about. And as different as we are, I sometimes find that we are actually quite very similar.
My Darla
Gage, Lawrence and Qijin.

I am just happy to see Qijin here. She is so busy these days..

Trip Back Home 14th Oct ~ 19th Oct

What I had lacked in Thailand was Boozing with my Gang. And UnXpected. But Holland V is too far and our Steamboat and Anime Session ended late.
So we settled down at Happy Days (Jayna, is it spelt with s or z?), a pub nearer to where everyone lives.

Key Playas!
Adrian CK Dawn, my sista Gage Jayna

It's always nice to be sipping beer with them. Talking about anything and everything.
One of our (CK and Jayna and Me) favourite activity is to talk about anything naughty. Our secrets. And like what we always say, we are each other's worst enemies.

One that stuck to my memory was when we talked about nasty things we do when we are high or drunk. Adrian said he dirty danced with people while being sandwiched between two other people.
hmm.. Shocking. Because the Slutty Three doesn't need to be a teeny bit High to do that. heh.
Adrian is such an angel. Time for some conversion course :)

This pretty little thang, who can pass off easily as my younger sister, is Dawn. She was a disco queen. haha. And I think she was the one who showed us to the world of clubs and discos. Can anyone remember? A great writer (Something I recently found out. Always thought she can only write in Chinese. hee.) And Da World's Greatest Sister!

I figure this is what adrian will do when he's high. Ck and Me are just sluts heeheekeekee. pi pi poo poo!

Apart from chatting about Those things, we managed to talk about the past, the future, relationships, Religion. It's always very enriching. And it's a way to tell just what a long way we have come together. Differences don't seem to matter much anymore. Because we know that we will still love each other even if we are different.

We are like the oldest lovers each of us have.
Quarrels.
Kisses.
Slamming of Doors.
Break-ups.
Patch-backs.
Birthday Surprises.
Tears.
Jealousy.
Laughters.
Knowing how each other look like when we wake up in the morning.
Knowing each other's Heartbreakers.
Being a stand-by darlin' whenever Lover is absent.

Happy Days wasn't happening at all. But I enjoyed every Second of being there :)

Trip Back Home 14th Oct ~ 19th Oct

And of course I had to do some things that I haven't done in Three Months.

Roller Blade

Cut My Hair

Come Grow With Me: Learn About The Bird Flu

Q: What is bird flu
A: Birds can suffer from flu, just like humans, and there are 15 types of bird - or avian - flu, which is a highly infectious disease.
The most contagious strains are H5 and H7 and these are usually fatal to birds. The most severe form of the disease was last confirmed in the United Kingdom in 1992

Q: Why is there such concern about it
A: Most types of bird flu do not affect humans, but H5N1 - the strain that has arisen in the Far East, eastern Europe and was confirmed in the parrot - can be fatal to humans.
About 60 people out of 120 confirmed cases have died from the deadly strain, all in South East Asia. Scientists fear the virus may genetically mutate into a form that is easily spread between humans and thus cause a potentially catastrophic pandemic

Q: How do humans catch bird flu
A: The virus is passed from infected birds through their saliva and faeces.
It was thought it could only infect birds, until the first human cases were reported in Hong Kong in 1997. Humans are likely to contract the disease after close contact with infected birds, most likely poultry

Q: What are the symptoms in humans
A: They are similar to other types of flu - fever, sore throats, coughs and muscle ache - as well as more serious conditions of eye infections, pneumonia and severe respiratory diseases

Q: Can bird flu be passed from human to human
A: There is anecdotal evidence from the Far East that it can - but only among close relatives

Myth: I should stop eating chicken
A: The primary way humans can become infected with bird flu is by coming in direct contact with infected poultry and/or surfaces contaminated with their droppings. You cannot get the virus by eating chicken or other poultry or their eggs.
In the very few cases of human-to-human bird flu transmission, the method of transmission cannot be confirmed but likely came by breathing in the contaminated breath droplets from the infected patient, not through food.

Myth: Antibiotics will help me avoid bird flu
A: Antibiotics won't help you avoid contracting either the usual human flu or bird flu. Antibiotics are used to treat infections that are caused by bacteria and are of no use against viruses.

Myth: Getting a flu shot now will help me in a flu pandemic
A: Flu vaccines are reformulated each year to counter one specific virus strain. Since we still don't know which strain will cause the next flu pandemic, it is not yet possible to create a vaccine.
Still, vaccine manufacturers are doing the foundation work to develop a vaccine to H5N1. But even if a vaccine can be developed, it would take many months to mass-produce and distribute. And it seems unlikely that manufacturers will be able to meet demand. That's why more attention is being paid to antivirals as the first line of attack in the event of a pandemic.

As for the flu shot, the regular human flu still kills hundreds of people a year in Canada, so getting the flu shot remians important for those most at risk, such as the elderly.

Myth: Taking Tamiflu now will help me avoid bird flu
A: Tamiflu is an antiviral medication, and while it may reduce the severity and duration of influenza, it is not a vaccination and may not prevent infection.
As well, widespread inappropriate use of antivirals could lead to the development of resistant strains of flu, just as not taking antibiotics properly can lead to more virulent strains of bacteria.

Trip Back Home 14th Oct ~ 19th Oct

The strangest thing happened 2 weeks before I got back to SG.
That time, I still did not know that I will get to fly back. But then, I would sometimes lie on my bed and think about eating carrot cake, and walking on the Esplanade Tunnel.
It made me feel really happy. And I figured that that is a sign that I am missing Home.

So when I really got the chance to go back, I had to try my best to eat everything that I can. Sweet Gareth, Vicky and Choon Yew had bought Char Kuay Teow, Hokkien Mee, Goreng Pisang (Fried Banana), Rojak and Spring Rolls for me. Me and Brother got Carrot Cake.

We SNACKED on those while waiting for Jayna to come.
Then we hit the Steamboat!To those who have seen me grow up. I would like to surprise you all by saying Gage is slowly eating Spicy things, Prawns, and even Mangoes.
And I finally can appreciate what you all mean by Everyone should Live to Eat :)

Trip Back Home 14th Oct ~ 19th Oct

Due to Working Visa Complications. I had to go back SG to renew my visa. What Great News.

I would like to share that I have taken the shared language for granted.
It felt really good when people at the SG airport understand what I want to say :)

Anyway, I didn't tell my mommy that I was going back. So in order to give her a surprise, my sister had told her she had won a prize that can be collected at the airport.
When my mommy saw me. She thought, that guy looks like my son.
haha. aiyo!
silly mommy!

This trip away from home gave me most of the love that I lost along the way of recovering from my down times.
More about my anger later.Jayna.. my punching bag.. the one who had faith in me.
The one who came to the airport to welcome me home.

Come Grow With Me: Learn A New Thing A Day - How To Protect Your Handphone From Theft

EASY TO CARRY AND NICE TO HOLD. CARE FOR IT AS IT’S EASY TO GO
Imagine losing your mobile phone and all the personal data and contact numbers that you have stored in it. It will take up much precious time and effort to recover this information if you lose it.

There are two in-built security features, namely the phone lock and SIM lock. Use them to make your mobile phone less attractive to criminals. Refer to your manufacturer’s guide on how to activate them.

IMEI number
Obtain your mobile phone’s IMEI number by keying in (*#06#). A 15 digit IMEI number will appear on the screen of your mobile phone. Write down somewhere as it will come in handy if you lose your mobile phone.

PREVENT MOBILE PHONE LOST
Some simple steps to take included:
-Do not lend strangers your mobile phone. There have been cases where strangers have run away with the mobile phone after “borrowing” it.
-Do not leave your mobile phone in your vehicle unattended. A thief may smash the window or windscreen to get it.
-Do not leave your mobile phone unattended.
-Always keep your mobile phone secured with you, such as in your front pocket.
-When visiting sporting facilities, make sure you leave your belongings and mobile phone in a locker.
-Be aware of your surroundings especially when you are in a crowd.

If your mobile phone is stolen
-Inform your service provider to cancel the SIM card as soon as possible.
-Lodge a Police report immediately.
-In particular, provide the IMEI number.

Cate Blanchett

Name: Catherine Elise Blanchett
Place of Birth: Melbourne, Australia
Height: 5'8" (1.78m)
Marital status: Married to screenwriter Andrew Upton
Maternal status: Cate and Andrew have two sons, Dashiell and Roman.

Biography
Catherine Elise Blanchett was born on the 14th of May, 1969, at the Jessie McPherson Hospital in Melbourne, as the daughter of a Texan navy officer (Robert Blanchett) and a Melbourne schoolteacher (June Blanchett). When her parents met, Robert Blanchett moved to Australia, and got into advertising. As a kid, Cate recalls herself as "part extrovert, part wallflower". When she was ten, Cate and her older brother Bob Blanchett and younger sister Genevieve Blanchett were pulled out of a Melbourne cinema to be told that their father was dead of a heart attack at the age of 40. It's a story she resists talking about, but the loss of her father was deeply mourned. As a child cate dreamt of living in a haunted house, so she might meet her father again. Cate and her brother and sister were raised by her mother June. Cate's brother Bob Blanchett is a computer programmer, and her sister Genevieve is a set designer in the theatre.
Cate graduated from the NIDA in 1992, and began her career on the stage in her final year, playing in Sophocles' Electra. Her first major stage role was opposite Geoffrey Rush in the 1993 David Mamet play Oleanna. She then played in multiple Australian plays, before landing a role in the TV Movie Police Rescue in 1994. She maintained her stage career while playing in TV series such as Heartland, Bordertown and Parklands. She made her filmdebut in Paradise Road, starring Glenn Close and Frances McDormand, as one of a group of women imprisoned by the Japanese in Sumatra in World War 2. Her big break in the film industry was Oscar and Lucinda, which got her the part of Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth'. The director of 'Elizabeth', Shekhar Kapur, saw Cate on a reel of Oscar and Lucinda which was playing in the office of his casting director and immediately decided upon her for the part.

"Actresses can get outrageously precious about the way they look. That's not what life's about. If you starve yourself to the point where your brain cells shrivel, you will never do good work. And if you're overly conscious of your arms flapping in the wind, how can you look the other actor in the eye to respond to them?" ~one of Cate's most famous quotes.
~~~
I honestly cannot remember how I come to love Cate Blanchett so much. Something must have prompted me to watch Elizabeth. I cannot remember. I must have watched The Talented Mr. Ripley before I watched Elizabeth, but I didn't know that woman is Cate.
So, like falling in love, something happened. And I have loved her since.
Cate Blanchett is more than an actress, an idol to me. She's the person I want to love (though it could be better if she's shorter :p). Her personality. Her beauty. Her refusal to to stick the norm. Her refusal to be a people's actress- to be beautiful and perfect (although she can very well accomplish that). Her ability to stay bounded to earth.
I didn't even watch all the films that she made. [I only watched Elizabeth- 1998, The Talented Mr Ripley- 1999, Bandits- 2001, Charlotte Gray- 2001, The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring- 2001 (and yes.. I watched it because of her 5 minutes appearance), The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers- 2002, Heaven- 2002 (she shaved her head for this movie), Veronica Guerin- 2003, The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King- 2003, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou- 2004] I didn't watch The Aviator (the role that won her the Oscar), because I think watching Leonardo for that three hours will kill me. So I figured Cate will understand. hee..
Her next film release is Little Fish. But i'm really looking forward to her Notes on a Scandal (Cate is Sheba Hart, an Art teacher who has an illicit affair with an underage student.), where she will appear with Judi Dench. Two fine actress. Very excited.
There is a strength I draw from her. And strangely, I do it by watching her movies.
Notably:Charlotte Gray which was watched on my last day of that Summer. And Veronica Guerin, which I watched without anybody's company. There is a stir when I look at Cate Blanchett. Maybe it's because she reminds me of a person that I love. Her personality. Her beauty. Her refusal to to stick the norm. Not pushy but so full of herself.
To end off, I share a quote that I keep very close to my heart.
"If you know you are going to fail, then fail gloriously!"~Cate Blanchett
p.s. I Will Always Love You
